As 2020 comes to a close, its clear that this year was all about home. Thanks to quarantines, virtual learning, social distancing, and remote working, we all spent more time at home than ever before which, at least for me, was a blessing. Not only were we home, we were home together. We drove each other plenty crazy and we missed our friends and family and coworkers, but I think when we look back at 2020 someday we will be grateful for this time together at home.
In 2017 we set out to build our house as our "forever home" putting in lots of sweat equity and planning projects for the future, we were in no rush to finish...becuase we had "forever" to work on them. But God had different plans for us and by the time this year comes to a close, we will have moved out of that house and started dreaming of the next one. But before we left, we had the gift of time in our home, which was truly a gift! Our dining room became a school room for distance learning, the guest room turned into a cozy office, the kitchen got used for culinary lessons with kids, family meals every day, small gatherings with friends around the island. We got to really know our home and use every inch of it.
Our move was a bit of a surprise to us, it came quickly near the end of November and we were moved out within a few weeks of accepting an offer. I will forever be grateful that we spend so much time really living in our home before we left. Not only did we get to enjoy the fruits of our labor, but we got to learn what we loved, what drove us crazy, what we want again, and what we will do different next time.
While I wouldn't wish a pandemic to ever happen again, I'm choosing to focus on the good that has come from it and for me and my family, our time here was one of the best!
